The Presiding Deity

The Unique Form of Shree Jagrut Maruti

The idol of Shree Jagrut Maruti is saffron-coloured and faces south. Its distinctive features include a single face, one eye, a sacred gada (mace), and a shendi (traditional tuft of hair). The deity's tail extends around the entire body.

The deity is revered as Sankatmochan Maruti, the remover of difficulties . According to the temple's devotional tradition, devotees seek blessings for relief from troubles, problems and Vastu-related difficulties through worship and darshan.

A Shiva lingam is also situated on the left side of the Maruti idol.

Ancient Architecture

A Traditional Hemadpanthi Temple

The temple follows the traditional Hemadpanthi architectural style. Its construction uses carved stone, lime and sand, with no cement used in the original construction, according to the temple's historical description.

The temple faces south. Above its main entrance is a large seated stone sculpture of Hanuman carrying Lord Rama and Mother Sita upon his shoulders.

The sanctum, or garbhagriha, is small, and devotees must bend down to enter it. This distinctive arrangement adds to the traditional character of the sacred inner shrine.

Heritage in Stone

Traditional stone carving, lime-and-sand construction and devotional craftsmanship define the temple's architectural character.

A Sacred Resolution

The Nine Shrines in the Courtyard

In the courtyard before the sanctum, nine small shrines are built into the stone walls on the left, right and front sides. The trustee committee has installed idols of nine deities in these shrines.

According to the temple's historical account, Shree Samarth Ramdas Swami had intended to establish the Navagraha (nine planetary deities) in the courtyard when the Maruti idol was consecrated. That intention remained incomplete at the time.

The trustee committee later fulfilled this unfinished resolve by installing the nine deities' idols.

The Temple Precincts

The Courtyard and Its Surroundings

In earlier times, a well stood in the courtyard in front of the sanctum. Devotees would bathe in its water before proceeding for darshan of Shree Maruti.

Tree plantation has also been undertaken within the temple premises, with the aim of creating a peaceful and pleasant natural environment for devotees.
